§02Exposure class — what changes with weather and use
The ACI exposure classes are the standard way to describe what a concrete has to withstand in service. Charlotte metro slabs are typically in freeze/thaw exposure (F1) with light chemical exposure (S0). Exposure classes drive air content, w/c ratio and cementitious content minimums.

What PSI should a commercial driveway be?
4,000 to 4,500 psi at 28 days, per ACI 318 and PCA commercial guidance. Higher strength than a residential driveway because the design load is higher.
Does a foundation slab need air entrainment?
Not typically. Interior foundation slabs sit in exposure class F0 (no freezing) and do not require air entrainment. Air entrainment is a durability provision for exterior slabs exposed to freeze/thaw.
What slump is used for stamped concrete?
3 to 4 inches. A stiff mix is preferred so the stamped pattern holds its edges. See ASCC's stamped concrete guide.
What is exposure class F1?
Concrete exposed to freezing and thawing with occasional moisture. Charlotte metro exterior slabs typically sit in F1. Requires 5 to 7 percent air entrainment and a water-to-cementitious ratio of 0.45 or less.
